Editorial Standards & How We Make Money

HVACFixPro exists to give homeowners straight, accurate answers about heating and cooling problems and the money decisions that come with them. This page explains how we research our guides, how we stay independent, and exactly how we make money.

Our editorial promise

  • Accurate and current. Cost ranges reflect 2026 market pricing and are reviewed against manufacturer documentation and public data. Time-sensitive guidance (refrigerant rules, efficiency standards, tax credits) is dated and updated.
  • Plain English. We write for homeowners, not technicians, and every guide leads with the answer.
  • Homeowner-first. We tell you what you can safely check yourself before we ever suggest calling a pro.

How we research and review

Our guides are produced by the HVACFixPro Editorial Team and checked against authoritative sources, including the U.S. Department of Energy, ENERGY STAR, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, ACCA Manual J load-calculation standards, and manufacturer specifications. Pricing reflects national ranges and varies by region, system, and home.

How we make money

HVACFixPro is free for readers, and we earn revenue in two ways. First, when you choose to connect with a service provider through our site — by calling a listed phone number or submitting a quote request — we may be paid a referral or per-call fee by the provider or the network that receives your request. Second, we display advertising. Either way, this never adds a cost to you, and it never influences our guidance, our rankings, or what we tell you to check first.

We are an information and referral service. We are not paid to recommend one brand or contractor over another, and a payment relationship is never a condition of appearing in our content.

What we are not

HVACFixPro is not a contractor. We do not perform HVAC work, employ technicians, dispatch service, or guarantee the work of any provider. All work is performed by licensed, independent contractors that you select and hire directly. California homeowners can verify any license at the CSLB.
